Region 4 - Coventry Sai Centre Service - Grub n Gab

What is Grubín Gab?

Grubín Gab is a service organisation that helps homeless and needy people of Coventry. Itís a place for those attending, to have some Ďgrubí (food) and also some Ďgabí (or chat) with others. It was established over twenty years ago by Mike Parker and Sylvia Wileman. Grubín Gab is held every Saturday at the St. Barnabus Family Centre, Cromwell Street, Coventry, CV6 5EZ.

"The fulfilment of human life consists in the service that man renders, without any thought of return, in an attitude of selflessness" Bhagawan Baba

The Coventry Sai centre help and contribute to Grubín Gab approximately every six weeks. A team of up to six to seven volunteers including youth, help prepare and serve food on site. The team arrive and start preparing food from 10.30 am following three Omkars. After the food prayer has been offered to the Lord, food is served at around 12.30pm. When everybody has been served, the kitchen and canteen facility is cleaned.

On a regular basis, up to twenty to thirty home-less people attend. On arrival they are lovingly welcomed and offered tea/coffee and biscuits.

Vegetarian food is served always. For instance the Grubín Gab event held on the 22nd of June 2013 included soya balls in tomato sauce with rice and buttered bread as the main meal. The main meal was prepared with fresh ingredients and Indian spices. Ice cream was served for dessert. Tea / coffee and biscuits were served prior to the main meal as guests arrived. Babaís teachings: "Food should not be too salty. Food should not be too hot. Food should not be too bitter. Food should not be too sweet. Food should not be too sour".

Our local devotees always take great joy in participating in such a wonderfull service activity. ďBeing a volunteer for Grubín Gab is a great opportunity to put into practice Baba's teachings of "Love All Serve All" and "Help Ever, Hurt Never". The event is also a fantastic opportunity for volunteers of any background to improve their everyday team working, communication and organisational skills.Ē
