“Serve the Planet” – Global Service Project

“The core of the spiritual discipline of service is to see everyone as yourself and yourself in everyone. You are not doing service to others, you are doing service to yourselves , to the God in you who is equally present in all” – Sathya Sai Baba 21/11/1981

This project was initially proposed by the youth of Italy and has since been endorsed by Prasanthi Council to be a global service project for the overseas Sathya Sai Organisations to commemorate Avatar Declaration Day on the 20th October. One may recollect that on October 20th 1940, Bhagawan out of His infinite love and compassion declared to the world that He was an avatar who had come for the redemption of mankind. Serving fellow beings has been at the very heart of His Divine Mission.

The project “Serve the Planet” is primarily focussed upon feeding the poor which is left to individual countries to implement based upon their local needs.

This is a wonderful opportunity for devotees around the world to participate in this project as an offering of their love to Bhagawan.

In the UK, over 13 million people live below the poverty line i.e. 1 in 5 persons. Lot of people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from homelessness, lack of enough income, sickness, changes to benefits, unemployment, debt etc. The current economic climate has not helped the situation.

In 2012-13, Trussell Trust Food Banks fed 346,992 people nationwide. Of these, 126,889 were children. The food banks provide a minimum of three days emergency food supply for people in crisis. There are currently 350 food banks launched by Trussell Trust throughout the country.

The youth of UK after extensive discussion and search have proposed that the centres / groups of our Organisation initially support these food banks which are already well established and make this our nation building project towards ‘Serve the Planet’ to be launched soon.

The project will be jointly owned and led by the Service Wing and the Youth Wing. It will initially entail collection of non-perishable food on specific dates from centres and transferring items to food banks. Further details of nearest food bank, contacts and how each group, centre and region will be able to participate in this initiative will be circulated soon.

We pray to Dearest Bhagawan that He Blesses this humble offering from us, His Devotees and that by His Grace, we will be able to serve our fellow beings with the understanding that the service rendered is to Sai who dwells in the hearts all beings.
