Region 3 - Manor Park Sai Centre: Christmas Day Seva

Every Christmas Day, Manor Park Sai Centre provides Christmas Lunch and entertainment to the needy and homebound, in partnership with the Froud Community Centre. For the past 18 years, we have all spent the day serving those in need, providing a wholesome meal, entertainment and company to the less fortunate in the East London area.

This year, we had 33 people attending. Drivers were given 2-3 passengers each to go and pick up, which they then brought back to the venue in readiness for the Christmas Lunch. Once the drivers returned with their eager passengers, we had warm cups of tea at the readyA full Christmas Lunch (with all the trimmings!) was served to everyone and there was a lot of merriment as we all went around and interacted with the different people who had come along. Young or old – there was a smile on everyone’s face that day.

Once lunch was finished and Christmas pudding had been finished off, everyone got together to watch the Queen’s Speech. Focusing on team values, togetherness and harmony, the queen’s words rang true with everyone that day.Following that, all the children and youth of the centre got together to sing some carols. Definitely this is a time where we can say “Music Be the Food Of Love – Play On!!”Everyone enjoyed the carols and they were all encouraged to sing along.

Following a rousing game of Bingo and mince pies, all the people attending were shown a wonderful time and they left the venue happy and content, to be driven home personally by our “Sai Chauffeurs”! Everyone is always so thankful for our services and we were very touched to here from one elderly lady “They’re always so genuine”.
