Region 4 - Mahashivarathri: The Great Night of the Worship of Lord Shiva

On this beautiful auspicious night of Maha Shivratri we were very privileged to have the opportunity to hold a program that was conducted all night commencing on the 28th February 2014 from 7:30 in the evening until 6am the next morning, at Abbey Primary School in Leicester. One felt the surge of warmth as their eyes prostrated in front of their Sai Shankar - their kailash ke nivasi , sat majestically on an altar which perfectly depicted the auspiciousness of the night.

The day commenced with prayers and all were greeted by Sanjaybhai Samani who in his Welcome speech emphasised on the auspiciousness of Maha Shivratri and the opportunity to create a bond with Bhagwan. Immediately afterwards, a beautiful session of bhajans began and included the Lingaashtakam and other Ashtakams that were sung during the Abeishekam to which the devotees could participate.

The next item was by our wonderful SSE Children who produced a beautiful Shiva Dance which narrated the story of The Life Lord Shiva.

The first half of the program ended at midnight as the hall had to be set up for the Maha Shiv Puja. Around 50 families participated in the Lingam Puja conducted by Chiragbhai Vithlani.

It is believed that anyone who utters the name of Lord Shiva during Shivratri with pure devotion is freed from all sins. He or she reaches the abode of Shiva and attains Moksha. This puja concluded at 3 in the morning uplifting everyone with divine vibrations. The evening was then continued with beautiful bhajans sung by all the devotees.

The programme drew near to its conclusion in at 05:00 with an atmosphere of Prashanti Nilayam leading into Suprabhabhatam followed by Bhajans and ending with Arti and Vibhuti Mantra.

I feel that we should cherish this spirit of devotion, love and bliss in our daily lives.

It is now our duty to make our lives His Message.

We pray to Swami to grant us more opportunities like this to help us with self-transformation.
