Region 5 - Regional Retreat: Youth Report

At the Regional Retreat we have SSE sessions that run in parallel to the main workshops sessions for the adults, so that all the parents can come to the retreat and participate fully, knowing that their children are taken care of and are with their SSE gurus learning and enjoying a different experience at the Retreat.

This year, the Youth wing were put on a rota for the responsibility of looking after the SSE children. each youth put so much thought and love into making their time with the SSE children of great value by teaching them about team work through an engaging treasure hunt, nature walks, nature collages, music medleys, dance and much more. Each child seemed genuinely happy, engaged and had really taken something new away with them.

The youth also participated in a beautiful musical offering which consisted of qawali’s, songs and bhajans in various languages.

As well as these activities, youth helped with food service throughout the retreat and enjoyed the experience of being involved in the set up and clearing of the venue. A personal highlight of the workshops was the Service through story-telling workshop where by we heard wonderful stoires of Hanuman and many more. Each story highlighted the way in which we should do service.

The fun part of the retreat which was organised by a youth originally from Scotland was a wonderful evening of bhajan antakshri, with themes for each round making the whole game challenging and exciting. We had themes based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Goblet of Fire, the Wolverine Round, The Deathly Hallows and much more...so much creativity and passion made the game engaging.
