Region 1 - Talk By Dr Swami at Merton Sai Centre

Om Sri Sai Ram,

On Tuesday 22nd July, we were very fortunate to have Dr K L N Swami with us at the Merton Sai Centre. Dr Swami was blessed with the rare privilege of serving our beloved Bhagawan at the Brindavan Campus of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning between 1988 and 2002. He was a professor of English language and was the Principal of the Brindavan campus between 1995 and 2002. He prayed to Bhagawan to allow him to take retirement in 2002. Since then, he has been living in USA. He regularly gives talks and conducts study circles at various Sai centres across the globe.

The evening commenced at 7 pm with Omkar, 108 names of our beloved Swami, followed by bhajans. Dr Swami also led the bhajans by singing “Shridi Sai Parthi Sai Humko Deejo”, which elevated the spiritual atmosphere even more. Shortly before commencing his talk, he reminded how Swami’s bhajans were very uplifting even if were to just listen to them.

Dr. Swami started his talk with a small prayer to Swami. The devotees were captivated by his sweet, nectarine voice as his tone was quite similar to our beloved Bhagawan. He shared some of his experiences with Swami whilst he was working at the University with utmost humility and love. He narrated incidents that he experienced with our Lord, both, in His physical form and transcendental form.

During the talk, Dr. Swami kindly permitted us to have a “Question and Answer” session. One of the questions raised by a youth member was: “Being a student, we come across many obstacles, including exams. During exam time, there are times where we lose focus as well as motivation. What advice would you give in increasing our concentration and ensuring that we are always working to our utmost ability?” Dr Swami’s response was very sweet and concise – “Bhajans!” He emphasised the power of bhajans and devotional singing on the self as well as our surroundings. Singing bhajans allows us to focus on God and to cultivate one-pointed concentration. These qualities will be particularly helpful for students during their studies.

Finally, to conclude the wonderful session, he sang a sweet Telugu poem written to Swami. Everyone present at the Sai Centre would agree that despite being one of the older members present in the congregation, his energy levels and enthusiasm was beyond comparison. His positive energy inspired everyone, particularly the youth. We could see that he always had Swami in his heart and that was clearly reflected in his thoughts, words and deeds.

We thank Dr K.L.N Swami from the bottom of our hearts for sharing time with us to talk about Swami and for filling us with the divine love of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
