Region 2 – Harrow West Shivarathri Celebrations

Shiva Ratri is one of the festivals that we all look forward to celebrating each year. The prospect of chanting the Lingastakam and offering bilva leaves to the lingam brings excitement to everyone and devotees perform this with a lot of love and devotion.

A lot of love, planning and hard work had gone into setting up the altar making it unique. Swami’s picture was projected on a large Shiva Ling and strings of hand made garlands, lamps and the ethereal blue-litbackground gave the feeling of our Sai Shiva’s presence in the Himalayas.

The program started with 3 AUMs and the abhishekam was performed with 11items (water, oil, pancha kavyam, milk, honey, fruit juice, coconut water, sugarcane juice, chandanam, vibhuti, water from the kalasham). In between each Abhishekam, one anuvaka of Sri Rudram was chanted reverberating the hall with vibrations.

While bilvastakam was being chanted, devotees offered bilva leaves to the Lingam.

The program continued with the chanting of Shiva panchakshari and Lingastakam followed by bhajan singing.

In the end, panchamrit was served to all. The icing on the cake had to be the delicious badam milk, which reminded us of Lord Shiva’s favorite drink. A very heartfelt thank you to all our Sai brothers and sisters in making all the arrangements with such devotion and details, which certainly made the occasion memorable.
