Region 1 - Mahashivarathri Celebrations

Our beloved Swami has said that ‘Shivarathri is a day when one tries to establish friendship between the mind and God. Shivarathri makes one aware of the fact that the same Divinity is all-pervasive, that it is to be found everywhere.’ (ref: sss vol18 ch 7).

With these noble goals in mind Region 1 celebrated Maha Shivarathri on the night of Tuesday 17th February at the Sai Mandir with programme of vedic chanting, prayers and bhajans that was hosted by Merton Sai Centre. It was a wonderful occasion as the centres and groups in the region came together to celebrate this auspicious festival. The beautiful altar adorned with flowers and garlands set the tone for the evening.

We started at 6.00pm with the Rudram and the Vedic chants followed by Linga Abishekam and Shiva prayers. A night of bhajans to uplift the soul then commenced. The centres and groups in the region took part in their allotted time slots to fill the night with bhajans. Many devotees stayed for the entire night. The highlight was the SSE children from the region coming together for the SSE bhajan slot. The bhajans continued till 5.00am when we paused for aumkar and suprabatham to greet Bhagawan at dawn. The bhajans then continued till 6.00am when the celebrations concluded with Arathi. We departed with the bhajans still resonating in our hearts.
