Region 1 - YAP: Face Painting at Royal Marsden Hospital

Sunday 22nd March marked the annual walking event of the Royal Marsden March where supporters walk between 5-14 miles in honour of those loved ones suffering from cancer. The Sai Youth of Region 1 decided to do their March YAP titled ‘Spread the Love’ alongside this great event. We were scattered across three sites (Morden, Chelsea and Sutton) and were given the exciting task of face painting for both the young and young at heart. Although most of us had limited or relatively no face painting experience at all, we got stuck in and with a bit of confidence and “creative interpretation” of peoples requests we managed to pull off some pretty cool looks by the end of the day!

There was a great sense of community spirit with people getting together from all walks of life who were connected by the one common thread – having a loved one with cancer. It was a wonderful but humbling experience to be part of such an amazing event where so many people gave their time, energy and love to inspire those who were suffering and needed support. Although face painting is seen more as a bit of light hearted fun, it really was a joy to put a smile to children’s faces when they get to see how we have made them up. And it wasn’t just the children getting excited about it!

Thank you to everyone who made the day what it was – from organising transport, taking pictures, face painting or just offering moral support to the general public, everyone contributed in whatever way they could. I would urge you all to participate next year – you won’t regret it!
