Region 2 - 20th Anniversary Celebrations of Sathya Sai Centre of London West

It was a beautiful sunny day and the weather outside reflected our spirits inside as we prepared for the 20th Anniversary celebrations at the Sathya Sai Centre of London West. Two life size pictures of Shirdi Sai and Sathya Sai were installed on that day. In the backdrop of a beautiful white flower embedded cloth, it looked as if our Mother Sai had come to the venue and was standing in front of us - blessing us. The Chairperson of Sathya Sai Centre of London West, Sister Pamela, unveiled these pictures just before the commencement of the programme.

The programme started with the chanting of Gayatri Mantra followed by Vedam chanting by the SSE students. The entire hall reverberated with the divine recitation of Ganesh prayers and 1st Anuvakam of Rudram. This was followed by melodious devotional singing by the SSE students and the lead singers of the Sathya Sai Centre. The feeling with which the devotional songs were sung electrified the entire hall. All the devotees participated enthusiastically and the hall was filled with positive divine vibrations. When the bhajan ‘Why Fear when I am here’ was sung, one balloon burst making much noise like an explosion thrilling everyone around!

This was followed by a picture presentation of the history and the journey of the Sathya Sai Centre – its highs and lows and the way it evolved to its current state. The presentation also highlighted how the Seva (Service) Wing and the Education Wing of the Sathya Sai Centre evolved. Monthly visits to the Old People’s Home at Heston House, commenced around the year 2000 and these are still continuing to this day. Food donations from the centre members are being made regularly to the local food bank. Whilst the first SSE (Sai Spiritual Education) class was held in Sept 2012, SSEHV (Sathya Sai Education in Human Values) classes commenced in April 2015. There are over 40 children attending SSE and 20 children attending SSEHV classes.

The history presentation was followed by Brother Aanand Venkat’s talk on his experiences with Swami as a Sai Student. He enthralled the audience with his childhood experiences with Swami. His talk highlighted that when we pray to Swami with sincerity, he will always respond – be it the desire to be invited for lunch with Him or the desire to know that Swami is aware of our presence. He also stressed the importance of having faith in Swami. When we truly believe that Swami is present and is presiding over the day’s events – He will always make His presence and Bless us although our senses may not be able to perceive this. When we bring in the seeds of doubt then He leaves.

We ended the programme with the announcements and Thought for the Day. Sister Gayatri Bikoo, our Regional President cut the 20th anniversary celebration cake along with the SSE students. This was followed by Aarati. The Sathya Sai Centre also celebrated birthdays of two SSE students the same day and wished them well on their special day. Snacks and cake prasadam were served for all the participants of the programme.

It was a day filled with love and happiness and we the Sathya Sai Centre members are energized to continue to play our roles in the divine mission for many more years to come.
