Region 6 - "Clean for the Queen" Event: Sandgate, Folkestone

Folkestone Sathya Sai Centre organised a Beach Cleaning event on Sunday, 14th February 2016 as part of the National cleaning campaign, “Clean for The Queen”. Clean for The Queen is a campaign to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty the Queen's 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated in June 2016. This event was also aptly dubbed as “Romantic Beach Clean” as it fell on the Valentine’s Day!

About 38 people assembled in Castle Road car park, in Sandgate, Folkestone for this very worthy community work at 10am. Mr Giles Barnard, The Shepway District Community Safety officer provided all necessary kits for litter pick and high-viz jackets for all participants. The participants were allocated their respective areas to cover in different groups. After 2 hours litter pick all assembled back in the car park and a group photo was taken by the photographer arranged by the Safety officer, Mr Barnard to cover this event on local papers. Thankfully the weather favoured us tremendously beating the forecast of wind and rain at that time of the day; however that followed soon after we completed the event at 12pm!

This event gave every participant a great sense of community work, joy and self satisfaction in being able to carry out the service.
