National Christmas Celebrations

National Event

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Om Sri Sai Ram!

With the divine blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, and on behalf of the United Kingdom Central Council & Sri Sathya Sai Charitable Trust (UK), I am delighted to invite you, your family and friends to the National Christmas Celebrations this year.

"Christmas means the Mass that is held on the birthday of Christ. It is fundamentally a sacred religious rite. To deal with it as if it is a festival for drinking and dancing or even for recalling Jesus to memory is very wrong. The day must be spent in prayer; not merely this day, but cultivate the saadhana (spiritual discipline) of prayer as a normal way of life. Prayers for worldly ends do not reach God."
- Bhagawan Baba, 24-12-1980

Over the past years, this joyful event has provided a wonderful opportunity for all of us in the UK Sai family- children, youth, and adults alike- to get together and rejoice in celebrating the Life and Message of Lord Jesus Christ, through carols, music, readings and talks. The teachings of love, sacrifice and service to fellow beings are indeed eternal, universal and uplifting. Our dear Lord Bhagawan Baba encourages everyone to integrate these values into our daily lives. In the life of Jesus Christ, these values are reflected and reinforced with such great splendour, that it instils immense hope, happiness, courage and confidence in the hearts of all humanity over the generations.

Jesus said "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.' The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments."
Matthew 22:36-40

This year's special programme will be held on Sunday the 15th December at the prestigious venue of The Cheltenham Ladies College Hall in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. The festive programme will include the traditional Christmas Service consisting of the 'Festival of Nine Lessons and Readings', Hymns and the Nativity. The Service will be led by Reverend Katie McClure.

Our Special guest this year is Ms Dana Gillespie, a renowned international singer. Dana is well known to the Sai family as an ardent devotee of Bhagawan who received His immense blessings and grace, and carries His Message of Love and Service through her music and talks to various countries in the world. Dana will share her music and her experiences on the day with all of us.

Another special feature of this year's national celebrations is service to the Food Banks. The recent service project, in which all Sai centres and groups in UK collected and delivered food items at their nearest Food Banks, gave tremendous joy to all devotees and lent a humble helping hand to various local communities. Following on from this, and in response to the growing need, anyone attending the National Programme who wishes to participate in this service activity can bring along any of the food items listed.
