National Christmas Celebrations 2014

National Event

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Om Sri Sai Ram!

With the divine blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, I am delighted to invite you, your family and friends to the National Christmas Celebrations this year on the theme, 'Be Like Children to enter the Kingdom of Heaven'.

Christmas celebrations has always been a joyous occasion for devotees in the UK which has provided a wonderful opportunity for families, be it children, youth, and adults alike, to get together and rejoice in celebrating the Life and Message of Lord Jesus Christ, through carols, music, readings and talks.

The Great Teachers belong to mankind. It is wrong to believe that Jesus belongs only to the Christians and the Christmas is a holy festival for the West only. To accept one of them as one's own and discard the rest as belonging to others, is a sign of pettiness. Christ, Raama, Krishna--- they are for all men everywhere. Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol.11, Chapter-54

The qualities of simplicity, purity, openness, cooperation and mutual respect- qualities that are natural to children-are taught as being essential for leading vibrant spiritual lives full of love and service by both Lord Jesus and our dear Lord Bhagawan Baba. Bhagawan has demonstrated these qualities by His own Example and has encouraged everyone of us to practise them in our daily lives.

This cooperation and mutual respect must become part of one's daily conduct, one's mental make-up, one's nature. This is what the Rishis of ancient India have consistently emphasised. 'Live together, revere each other; let not the seeds of envy and hate grow and choke the clear stream of Love,' is the prayer that they have taught the children of this land. Their teaching has been Unity, Divinity, Charity---in thought, word and deed, from the first breath to the last. Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol. 8, Chapter 31

This Christmas Celebration is indeed a wonderful occasion to remind ourselves to follow this divine exhortation to 'be like children' and lead our lives experiencing and spreading love and happiness all around us.

As last year, this year's special programme will be held on Sunday the 14th December at the prestigious venue of The Cheltenham Ladies College Hall in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. The festive programme will include the traditional Christmas Service consisting of the 'Festival of Nine Lessons and Readings', Hymns and the Nativity. The Service will be led by Reverend Katie McClure, who is the Chief Chaplain at the College.

Our Guest Speaker at this Celebration will be George Bebedelis from Greece. An ardent devotee of Bhagawan Baba since many years, brother George serves as faculty member of the European Institute of Sathya Sai Education. Based in Athens, he travels extensively around Europe conducting various seminars and training courses on human value-integrated education amongst children and young adults. He has spoken in the divine presence of Bhagawan Baba on several occasions in the past, and has published many scholarly articles in popular journals such as Heart to Heart, RadioSai etc.

Also, in the spirit of giving and sharing that characterises Christmas, a special Christmas Service activity has been planned for the day. Those registering to attend this Christmas Celebration, if interested in participating in this service activity, can bring along with them Gift items for children and/or Food items for Food Banks. These will be donated through 2 well known national charities- Refuge UK and The Trussell Trust Food Banks- whose representatives will be present to receive these on the day.
